Hello, my darling,

Welcome back to the blog! Let me take you back to an ordinary morning that turned into an extraordinary lesson. It all started in the middle of the usual chaos at home. My toddler had decided that porridge was best served as modern art on the dining table, strawberries were rolling across the floor, and my fiance was rummaging around for his keys (which, as it turns out, were exactly where I said they’d be).

In the middle of the commotion, I finally sat down with my morning cup of tea—Yorkshire Gold, of course—and opened my laptop to check my emails. That’s when it hit me. Right there, sandwiched between a newsletter from my local florist and a reminder about renewing my car insurance, was the email. You know, the kind that starts with “We’re updating our pricing to better serve you.”

It turns out that a membership service I’ve been using for years has increased its price. What used to cost me £25 a month had crept up to over £40. I don’t know about you, but my first reaction wasn’t exactly gracious. There I was, muttering to myself about the audacity of it all, trying to calculate how much this would add up to over the year. My fiance shot me a bemused look, clearly wondering what the fuss was about this time.

Determined to get answers, I rang customer service, before I’d even finished my tea! After navigating the dreaded automated options, I finally spoke to someone who offered me two solutions: a significant discount if I paid for an annual plan or a smaller one if I stuck to the monthly option. At first, I was fuming. Why should I have to adjust when they were the ones increasing the price?

But then, as I sat there clutching my phone, something shifted. What started as a small irritation turned into an opportunity for a much deeper reflection, on money, trust, and letting go of worry.

And that’s where today’s blog post begins, with the story of how this everyday frustration became a powerful reminder of God’s provision and how shifting our mindset can lead to unexpected peace. So, grab yourself a cup of tea.

The Shift in Mindset

So, there I was, staring at my laptop, still slightly irritated about this membership price hike. My initial reaction? Pure outrage. I even had a little rant to myself: What am I paying for? Gold-plated email reminders? Is the membership repackaging itself as Buckingham Palace on the sly? But after my tea break (because everything’s less dire after tea), I realised this wasn’t just about the cost.

It was about control. By choosing the annual plan, I wouldn’t have to think about this bill every month. That mental freedom—knowing it was taken care of—was worth far more than the extra £40.

I started thinking beyond the numbers. What if, instead of fretting over an extra few quid a month, I switched to the annual plan? Yes, it was more upfront, but I wouldn’t have to think about it again for a whole year. The monthly “tick-tock” of payments would be gone, freeing up my mental energy to focus on the things that actually matter—like my goals, and my family, and not forgetting to take the bins out on the right day.

Then a verse from the Bible came to mind: “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19). That hit me like a cup of Yorkshire tea to the soul. I was reminded that God provides for my needs. Worrying over every penny distracts me from recognising His blessings. And let’s be honest, who needs that kind of stress hanging over their head?

Suddenly, the whole situation felt different. Instead of stressing over the extra cost, I began to see the bigger picture. What if this was an opportunity to trust God more and release some of that scarcity mindset?

Letting Go of Worry

When we worry about money, it’s like trying to hold onto sand with clenched fists. The harder we grip, the faster it slips through our fingers. That constant stress creates a “scarcity” mindset, making us feel like there’s never enough, even when there is.

Jesus spoke so clearly about this in the New Testament: “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” (Matthew 6:31-32).

Reading that verse was like getting a nudge from above. God knows our needs, even before we do. Stressing over what we lack blinds us to what we already have.

A New Approach to Money

It struck me that when I approach money from a place of trust rather than fear, things flow more naturally. It’s not about being careless or frivolous; it’s about knowing that God’s got my back. Holding onto money too tightly only feeds the fear. Instead, releasing that grip and trusting God makes room for blessings to come in.

Jesus said it best: “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33). It’s like shifting the focus from what you don’t have to what truly matters—faith, family, and maybe even finally sorting that junk drawer in the kitchen. When we prioritise the important things, everything else begins to fall into place.

My Money Mindset Tip for You

Here’s a little tip if you’re feeling stressed about money: When you notice yourself worrying, take it as a sign to pause. Ask yourself, Am I holding on too tightly? Shifting your focus from fear to faith isn’t always easy, but it’s worth it.

Instead of dreading the bills or panicking over what’s left in the bank, you trust that God has it sorted. That mindset not only eases the stress but also opens the door for more opportunities and blessings to flow into your life.

Since I’ve made this small shift, my approach to money and life feels different. I’m no longer rushing around trying to make things happen. Instead, I’m focusing on doing things well, providing value, and trusting that everything will come together in God’s perfect timing.

And that, my loves, is how an annoying email turned into a moment of spiritual growth. Behind the scenes of that frustrating morning was a lesson I didn’t even realise I needed: to loosen my grip, trust God’s provision, and focus on what truly matters.

Now, here’s the thing, this mindset shift doesn’t mean we stop being good stewards of our money. But it does mean recognising when our worry is taking over and choosing to trust instead.

So, as you go about your day, I encourage you to reflect on your relationship with money. Is it rooted in faith or fear? The next time you’re faced with financial frustration, try to see it as a nudge from God to lean into His provision.

And let’s keep the conversation going—what’s your experience with money and faith? Have you ever had a moment like this where God showed you a new perspective? I’d love to hear your stories, so share them in the comments below.

Until next time, keep trusting, keep growing, and don’t forget to take a moment for yourself—whether it’s a quiet prayer, a cheeky biscuit, or a stroll in the fresh British air. You deserve it.

Sending blessings to you!
Scherise. X
