Hello darling! 🤍
Welcome back to the blog! I’ve been reflecting a lot lately on the seasons of life that we go through as believers, and I wanted to share what God has been showing me. Have you ever found yourself in a season where everything seems to be flowing perfectly, and you’re walking in God’s favour, only to suddenly feel like you’re walking through a storm? Or maybe you’re in a time of waiting, waiting on God to move, waiting for the promise He’s given you, or simply waiting for the next step in your journey with Him? Whatever your situation, I want to dive deep into understanding the four spiritual seasons we all experience, how to recognise them, and how to embrace them in order to grow closer to God.
Recognising the season you’re in can make all the difference in how you approach your spiritual walk. Whether you’re in a season of abundance, waiting, pruning, or breakthrough, knowing where you are helps you manage your expectations, trust God’s purpose for your life in that season, and strengthen your trust in Him.
Understanding the Four Spiritual Seasons
1. The Season of Abundance
The season of abundance is one where everything seems to be flourishing in your life. You may feel spiritually fulfilled, emotionally at peace, and physically blessed. In the Bible, we see this season reflected in Joseph’s life when he was promoted in Egypt and saw God’s favour everywhere he turned (Genesis 41). It can feel like you’re walking in the fullness of God’s blessing and favour, and there’s an undeniable sense of joy and peace.
But while abundance is a season to celebrate, it’s also a time to be extra cautious. It’s easy to get comfortable when things are going well, but it’s important to remember that abundance is not just for us. God blesses us so that we can be a blessing to others (Genesis 12:2). How can you use the blessings God has given you to serve His kingdom and help others? This season is also a time to practice humility and gratitude, as it’s easy to forget where those blessings came from if you’re not careful.
During abundance, it’s essential to remain grounded in God’s Word and keep a heart of worship, acknowledging that He is the source of all good things. This is not the time to rely on your own strength but to continue to give God the glory for all He has done in your life. Remember, seasons of abundance are fleeting, so be sure to store up treasures in heaven while enjoying the good things that God has entrusted to you.
2. The Waiting Season
The waiting season is one that many of us can relate to, and if we’re being honest, it’s probably one of the hardest seasons to be in. In this season, you find yourself waiting on God’s timing, whether it’s waiting for a breakthrough, a relationship, a job, or an answer to your prayers. It’s that space between the promise and its fulfilment. And honestly, it can be frustrating, especially when the wait feels endless.
But waiting is not a waste of time. God uses this season to prepare us for what’s ahead. In fact, one of the main purposes of waiting is to build our character and teach us patience. James 1:4 says, “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” This is God’s refining process, and He is using the wait to grow your faith, trust, and dependency on Him.
Waiting also teaches us the value of God’s timing. His timing is perfect, even when it feels like He’s taking longer than we would like. We may think that we’re ready for something, but God knows exactly when the right moment is for us to receive it. The waiting season is about building trust and surrendering to His perfect plan.
For me, I’m currently waiting on a very specific promise from God, one He gave me almost a year ago. At the time, it didn’t mean much to me, but now, that promise has become the very thing that keeps me going through the toughest days. There are moments when I grow weary and feel like giving up, but I’ve learned to hold onto God’s promise and remind myself that His timing is perfect. I often reflect on Isaiah 40:31: “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” The waiting may be hard, but God is renewing your strength in the process.
3. The Pruning Season
Now, the pruning season is the one that often catches us by surprise. It’s the season when things in our lives start to be stripped away, and we feel like we’re being cut down to nothing. Pruning can be painful and uncomfortable, and it’s easy to wonder why it’s happening. But here’s the truth: God prunes us not because He’s punishing us but because He wants us to bear more fruit (John 15:2).
Pruning is a necessary process for growth. Just as a gardener cuts away dead branches so that the plant can grow stronger, God removes things from our lives that are hindering our spiritual growth. Sometimes this can mean people, relationships, unhealthy mindsets, or habits that we need to let go of. It can feel like things are falling apart, but in reality, God is preparing us for a greater level of fruitfulness.
In my own life, I’ve had seasons where I felt like I was losing everything, things I thought I couldn’t live without. But in retrospect, those were the moments when God was refining my character, teaching me to trust Him, and making space for what He had next. The process isn’t easy, but it’s worth it. During the pruning season, you may feel confused, frustrated, or even abandoned, but I want to encourage you to trust God. He sees what you can’t see, and He’s removing things that are not aligned with His purpose for you.
4. The Season of Breakthrough
And then, there’s the season of breakthrough. This is the season we all long for, the one we’re praying for when we’re in the waiting or pruning season. Breakthrough is when the promise comes to pass. It’s the moment when God answers your prayers, when the doors open, and when you finally step into the fullness of what He’s been preparing you for. In the Bible, breakthrough can be seen in stories like David finally becoming king, after years of being on the run (1 Samuel 16).
Breakthroughs are often the result of all the seasons that have preceded them. The waiting, the pruning, and the abundance have all prepared you to handle the breakthrough that God has for you. When you reach this season, it’s essential to pause and give God glory for His faithfulness. It’s easy to want to rush forward and forget how far you’ve come, but take time to reflect on the journey.
Remember, a breakthrough is not just about receiving what you’ve been praying for, but about becoming who God called you to be in the process. This season should also be a time of generosity, helping others who are still in their waiting or pruning seasons. Your testimony can be the encouragement someone else needs to keep moving forward.
How to Recognise Your Season
Recognising which season you’re in is essential for navigating it well. Sometimes it’s easy to recognise, other times it can feel confusing. So how can you discern where you are?
- Pay attention to your circumstances. If things are flowing easily and you’re experiencing peace and joy, you’re likely in a season of abundance. If you’re facing roadblocks, challenges, or delays, you may be in a waiting or pruning season.
- Listen to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will help you discern your season. In moments of prayer and reflection, ask God to show you what He’s doing in your life right now.
- Examine your emotions. How do you feel? Are you full of joy, frustration, peace, or impatience? Emotions are indicators but should always be aligned with God’s Word and truth.
- Look at the lessons. Every season has a lesson. What is God teaching you right now? If it’s patience, surrender, or trust, you’re likely in a waiting or pruning season. If it’s gratitude, stewardship, or peace, you may be in a season of abundance.
Your Season
Darling, every season has its purpose, and every season is temporary. No matter what season you’re in, trust that God is working behind the scenes. He is making you stronger, more faithful, and more equipped for what lies ahead.
If you’re in a season of abundance, enjoy it, but don’t forget to give back and use it for God’s glory. If you’re in a waiting season, be patient and trust that God’s timing is always perfect. If you’re in a pruning season, remember that God is refining you, and the fruit that comes will be sweeter than you can imagine. And if you’re in a season of breakthrough, celebrate His faithfulness and share your testimony with others.
No matter the season, God is with you. He sees you, loves you, and is using everything for your good. trust the season you’re in, knowing that it’s preparing you for the next level in your spiritual journey.
