As I sit down to write this, my little one is finally napping, and the house is (mostly) quiet. Toys are scattered around the living room, and there’s a half-drunk cup of tea beside me that’s gone cold—again. My partner is in the other room, catching up on some work, and for the first time today, I have a moment to pause and reflect.
As I turn 32, I find myself thinking about how much life has changed. This birthday isn’t just about getting older – it marks a huge shift in my life. It’s been a year of growth, self-discovery, and the unexpected joys of motherhood.
Becoming a mum has been the biggest change. My little girl is about to turn one, and this journey has been both amazing and challenging in its own way. Motherhood changes everything – not just your daily routine but also how you see the world.
What I’ve realised is that every mum’s experience is different. We all make choices based on what feels right for us. For me, I chose to wait until later in life to have children because I wanted the freedom to travel, explore, and focus on my passions first. Looking back, I’m so grateful I had that time to grow before stepping into this new chapter.
Having a baby also changes your relationship. My partner and I used to spend so much time together effortlessly. Now, we’ve had to be more intentional about making time for each other. It’s not about spending every moment together anymore – it’s about making the moments we do have really count.
I also see birthdays differently now. In my twenties, I often felt unsettled on my birthday, worrying about where I was in life. But over the years, through personal growth and mindset shifts, I’ve found a deeper sense of contentment.
This year, I might not be feeling my best – I’ve been unwell the past few days – but I’m still grateful. My original plan for a spa day might be on hold, but that’s okay. I’m choosing to focus on what truly matters: the blessings in my life.
One verse that really resonates with me right now is Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NIV):
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
This reminds me that every stage of life has its purpose. Even in times of uncertainty, God’s plan is unfolding exactly as it should.
On this journey of self-care and personal growth, I’ve found that even small things make a difference. I recently started using a to-do list app (ME+), and it’s been a game-changer. Simple tasks like drinking enough water, or doing my makeup used to feel unimportant, but now I see how much they help me feel like myself again.
Looking back on this year, I feel nothing but gratitude – for the people who have supported me, for new friendships, and for the way life keeps evolving. I’ve learnt to embrace change instead of fearing it. So here’s to another year of growing, learning, and welcoming whatever comes next!
Sending blessings to you!
