Hey darling, welcome back to the blog! I’m sitting by the window, watching the rain drizzle down outside, with a warm cup of tea in hand (because it’s a must when it’s cold and grey, isn’t it?). It’s one of those quiet, reflective moments where I find myself thinking about something really important: Am I really putting God first in my life?

There are days when I feel like I’m doing all the “right” things, praying, reading the Bible, going to church but I’ve realised that putting God first goes much deeper than that. It’s not just about ticking off a checklist; it’s about fully trusting Him with everything, even the things I like to control. Sometimes, I forget that surrendering to God isn’t about giving up on my life, it’s about trusting that His plans are so much better than mine.

So, if you’ve ever wondered the same thing, grab a cup of tea (or whatever you fancy), and keep reading.

1. Recognise God’s Peace

The first step in putting God first is recognising His peace. God is the Creator of the world, the one who holds everything in His hands. When you truly understand His power and love, it becomes easier to surrender your life to Him. You no longer feel the need to control every aspect of your life because you trust that He is in control.

2. Let Go of Pride

Pride can be one of the biggest obstacles to surrender. We often think we can handle things on our own and forget that God is always there, ready to guide us. Surrendering means humbling yourself before God, acknowledging that you need His help, and letting go of your own agendas and plans. It can be a tough pill to swallow, but when you truly give up your own pride, you open the door for God’s grace and peace to flow into your life.

3. Make Time for God Daily

If you want to put God first, you need to spend time with Him. This doesn’t mean just attending church on Sundays or praying when you need something. Putting God first means making time for Him every day, whether through prayer, reading Scripture, or simply being still in His presence. When you make Him a priority, you start to see His hand in every part of your life, and it becomes easier to trust Him with the big and small things.

4. Trust God’s Plan

Surrendering to God also means trusting His plan, even when things don’t make sense. Life can be unpredictable, and there will be moments when you feel uncertain about the path ahead. But when you trust God and His perfect timing, you can rest assured that He is working everything out for your good. His plan for your life is always better than anything you could imagine, so let go of the need to control every detail and trust that He knows what’s best.

5. Serve Others

One of the best ways to put God first in your life is by serving others. Jesus came to serve, not to be served, and as His followers, we are called to do the same. When you focus on serving others and loving them as Christ loves you, you are putting God’s priorities above your own. It’s in these moments of selfless giving that you experience the joy and fulfilment that comes from living a life fully surrendered to Him.

6. Pray for Guidance

Surrendering to God means actively seeking His guidance in all areas of your life. Ask Him to show you where you’re holding back, and where you need to release control. Prayer is the way we communicate with God, and it’s through prayer that we align our hearts with His will. Don’t be afraid to ask Him to help you fully surrender and to show you how to put Him first every day.

7. Live in Obedience

True surrender is about obedience. It’s about choosing God’s way, even when it’s difficult or when you don’t fully understand it. Living in obedience brings peace because you know you are walking in the path God has laid for you. It’s not always easy, but when you choose to follow God’s commands, you open yourself up to His blessings and peace.

Putting God first is a daily journey of surrender. It’s about trusting Him, letting go of control, and seeking His guidance every step of the way. When you choose to surrender completely to Christ, you will experience a peace that transcends all understanding. No matter what challenges come your way, you can face them with confidence knowing that you are walking in God’s will.

If you’re struggling with surrendering to God, know that you’re not alone. It’s a process, and it takes time. But the more you surrender, the more you will experience His love, peace, and grace in your life. Trust in Him, and He will guide you every step of the way.

I hope this blog post has given you something to think about while you enjoy a bit of peace (or maybe a snack because who doesn’t love a snack?). As I reflect on my own journey, I’m realising that surrendering to God doesn’t happen all at once. It’s a process, and sometimes it’s a little messy. But each time I let go of control, I feel more peace and less stress.

I’ve been praying, reflecting, and asking God to show me the areas in my life where I need to trust Him more. It’s been amazing to see how He’s been guiding me. Surrendering isn’t about perfection, it’s about making the choice to trust God one step at a time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! I’m praying for you as you think about how to put God first in your life, and I promise you, the peace that comes with fully trusting Him is so worth it. Keep going, one step at a time.

Sending blessings to you!

Scherise. X
