In today’s world, we often hear about the power of positive thinking or manifesting our desires. But as I reflect on my faith journey, I find true peace and purpose when I focus my prayers on God, inviting Him to guide me according to His perfect will. For me, it’s not about asking for specific things to happen; it’s about seeking God’s direction and trusting that His plans are greater than anything I could imagine.
Turning to God in Prayer
In my prayers, I always begin with, “Dear God,” because I know that He is the source of all wisdom and guidance. The Bible teaches us to bring our requests to God with a humble heart, trusting that He knows what’s best for us. Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This verse is a reminder that when we place our concerns in God’s hands, we experience a peace that goes beyond human understanding. It’s not just about making a list of our wants; it’s about submitting our hearts to His will and allowing Him to lead us.
Seeking God’s Plan, Not Just Our Own
When we pray, it’s easy to focus on what we want or what we think is best for our lives. But the true beauty of prayer is in surrendering our plans to God and seeking His divine guidance. Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
This means that instead of relying on our limited understanding, we are called to trust in God’s wisdom. He knows the bigger picture of our lives, and His plans are always for our good.
A Heart of Surrender in Prayer
In our conversations with God, it’s important to remember that prayer is more than just asking for our desires. It’s about opening our hearts to His will and saying, “God, I’m here to follow Your lead.” Jesus Himself modelled this kind of humility in prayer when He said in Matthew 6:10, “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”
This verse reminds us to put God’s will above our own desires, trusting that His plans are higher and more perfect than anything we could design for ourselves.
