Hello, darling welcome back to the blog! Grab yourself a warm cup of tea and settle in, because today, we’re talking about something that’s been on my heart for a while.

Have you ever had those moments where it feels like everything’s falling apart and you’re desperately trying to get back on track with God, but just… can’t seem to find your footing? I know I’ve been there, and honestly, it feels like the world’s moving on without you while you’re still stuck trying to catch your breath. The laundry’s piling up (don’t even get me started on the socks), your to-do list is growing at an alarming rate, and somehow, in the chaos of it all, you’ve ended up feeling distant from God. And can I just say, that no one ever mentions how hard it is to juggle the spiritual, practical, and emotional bits of life all at once? It’s easy to fall into that trap of feeling like you’ve messed up too many times to even come back to God, but that’s the enemy whispering lies.

I’ve been there, more times than I can count. The guilt, the shame, the feeling of “how on earth did I get here?” But here’s the good news, my darling: you don’t have to stay in that place. God is always waiting for us to turn back to Him, and He’s not counting our mistakes or keeping score. Let me walk you through how to get back on track with God, even when life is chaos and it feels like your prayers are getting lost in the shuffle.

So, settle in (I’ve got my tea, can’t do anything without it), and let’s have a talk about how to leave that shame behind and step back into God’s love, one tiny step at a time.

The Struggle with Shame

If you’ve ever felt the weight of shame after falling away from God, you’re not alone. Many of us experience this emotional battle, especially when we feel we’ve let God down. The truth is, that shame is one of the enemy’s greatest tools. It keeps us in a cycle of negativity, telling us that we’re not worthy of God’s love. But the beauty of God’s grace is that it is not based on our performance, it’s based on His unchanging love for us.

When I think about my journey, I can remember moments when I got comfortable in my faith, thinking I had it all figured out, only to fall back into old habits or thoughts. The enemy whispered lies of unworthiness and failure, but I had to remind myself of God’s truth. In those moments, I learned that we can’t earn His love, but we can always return to Him with an open heart.

Returning to God

One of the first steps in getting back on track with God is repenting. Repentance is not just saying “I’m sorry” for our sins but truly turning away from them and seeking to align our hearts with God’s will. It’s important to remember that God is always ready to forgive. As it says in 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” This isn’t just a one-time promise—it’s a constant invitation to return to Him, no matter how far we’ve strayed.

God’s Grace

Once we repent, we need to fully accept God’s grace. Grace is unearned and unmerited favour. It’s God’s way of saying, “I love you no matter what.” It’s hard to understand at times, especially when we’ve messed up, but it’s in those moments that His grace shines brightest. When I’ve fallen short, I’ve had to remind myself that God isn’t standing with arms crossed, waiting for me to get it right. He’s standing with arms open, ready to restore me.

I remember reading the story of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15, where a son squanders his inheritance and falls into a life of shame. But when he returns home, his father doesn’t scold him, he runs to him, embraces him, and celebrates his return. God’s love is just like that: unconditionally welcoming us back with open arms.

Setting Boundaries to Stay Close to God

Getting back on track is one thing; staying on track is another. To keep our relationship with God strong, we need to set boundaries that protect our time with Him. This could mean making time for daily prayer and Bible reading, joining a community of believers who encourage us in our faith, and avoiding distractions that pull us away from Him.

For me, I’ve found that journaling and writing out my prayers helps me stay grounded. It allows me to reflect on God’s faithfulness and stay accountable to my walk with Him. I also like to set aside time in the mornings to read the Word. Even on busy days, I try to ensure I don’t miss this time with God because it’s in those moments that I find peace and direction for my day.

Dealing with Plateaus

There are times when we may feel like we’ve hit a plateau, where we don’t feel as connected to God as we once did. This can happen after seasons of struggle or complacency. It’s important to remember that just because we don’t feel God’s presence doesn’t mean He’s not there. We are called to walk by faith, not by sight or feelings.

When I’m feeling stuck, I remind myself that growth isn’t always about intense emotional experiences. Sometimes it’s about steady, consistent obedience, even when it feels like we’re not seeing results. I also lean into worship and prayer during these times. When I feel distant, worship has a way of drawing me back into God’s presence, reminding me of His goodness and love.

Moving Forward with Confidence

The key to staying close to God is understanding that He never leaves us, even when we feel far away. Hebrews 13:5 says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” God’s love is constant, and when we stumble, He’s right there waiting to pick us back up. We don’t have to hide our mistakes; we can bring them to Him, knowing that He’s ready to restore us and give us the strength to move forward.

If you’re struggling with shame or feeling far from God, remember this: It’s never too late to return to Him. His arms are open wide, and He’s waiting for you with love and grace. Don’t let the enemy’s lies keep you away from the One who loves you more than you can imagine.

I hope this little blog post helped lift the weight off your shoulders. Life is hard, isn’t it? Sometimes it feels like it’s trying to knock you down at every turn, especially when you’ve already got a toddler demanding snacks and an inbox full of emails. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned in all my wonderful moments of “I messed up again,” it’s that God doesn’t expect perfection from us. If He did, I would’ve been out of the game long ago (let’s be real, there have been plenty of moments where I felt completely unworthy). But the thing is He just wants us to show up, no matter how messy we feel. It’s often in the mess where His grace shines the brightest.

It’s funny, isn’t it? I used to think that getting close to God meant everything had to be in order first—like, I had to have my life together, all my ducks in a row, and my prayers all polished and pretty. But nope, it turns out God’s after the real, raw, unpolished versions of us. The ones who are tired, stressed, and feeling like we’re barely keeping it all together (with a toddler running around screaming for snacks).

So, whatever you’re facing, whether it’s guilt, shame, or just the chaos of life remember, it doesn’t matter how many times you’ve stumbled. God’s arms are open, waiting for you to step back in and keep going. And trust me, He’s with you, even in the messiness of it all.

I’m off to fold the never-ending laundry (wish me luck!), but know this: you’re never too far gone to come back to God. We’re all on this journey together, so let’s keep walking, one step at a time, with Him right beside us.

Sending blessings to you!

Scherise. X
