Hello, darlings!
Welcome back to the blog, As Christian women, we’ve all been there, dashing around trying to balance work, family, church commitments, and the never-ending laundry mountain that somehow appears out of nowhere. Honestly, some days, I feel like I need a nap just from thinking about all the things I’ve got to do. But in the middle of all this hustle and bustle, there’s something we often lose touch with, our creativity. You know, the kind of creativity we had as kids when making art was less about “how it looks” and more about the joy of just making something new. And I don’t know about you, but I’ve definitely let that spark dim a bit in the whirlwind of adulting.
But here’s the thing, God designed us to be creative. Yes, us! And as women of faith, it’s time we reclaim that freedom to create with the same excitement and fun we had when we were kids. Remember when you used to scribble away with crayons without worrying about whether the lines were straight or if the colours matched? Well, I say it’s time we bring that back!
So grab yourself a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and let’s chat about how tapping into your childlike creativity can bring some fresh energy into your life—and your faith. No need to worry about making everything “perfect” (because let’s face it, it never really is), just pure, unfiltered joy in the act of creation.
Why Create Like a Kid?
- No Fear of Judgment
Children create freely without worrying about what others think. In the same way, we’re called to embrace creativity without fear of failure or judgment. The Bible tells us, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18). When we create, we can trust that God delights in our efforts, whether they’re perfect or not. - The Joy of the Process
Children find joy in the act of creating, not just in the finished product. They don’t get discouraged if their drawing doesn’t look like a masterpiece. Instead, they focus on having fun, and that’s where we need to shift our focus too. God made us creative beings, and He wants us to enjoy the journey of bringing our ideas to life. - God-Glorifying Creativity
Creativity is not just a personal expression; it’s an act of worship. When we create with a childlike heart, we honour God and reflect His image. As Colossians 3:23 reminds us, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
5 Steps to Start Creating Today
Here are some simple steps to help you jump into your creative process today:
- Set an Intention to Create
Choose a time today to engage in a creative activity – whether it’s painting, writing, or anything that lets you express yourself. Set a small, intentional goal: Create for 10-15 minutes with no expectation of perfection. - Create with Freedom
Let go of the need for your creation to be “perfect.” Take inspiration from how children play with no constraints. Start with whatever supplies you have, whether it’s crayons, a blank page, a scrap of fabric, or a lump of clay. Just begin! - Reclaim Your Playful Spirit
Remember, as a child of God, you are free to create for the sheer joy of it. Don’t overthink or get too serious. Allow yourself to feel light-hearted and playful. Write a simple poem, doodle, or sing a song, even if it’s just for you. - Give Yourself Grace
If the perfectionist mindset starts creeping in, remind yourself that God values the effort, not the outcome. Romans 12:6 says, “We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us.” Create with gratitude for the gift of creativity that He’s given you. - Pray Over Your Creation
Before you start, or as you work, take a moment to invite God into your creative process. Ask Him to guide you, inspire you, and use your creativity for His glory. This simple prayer can transform your act of creation into an act of worship.
3 Tips to Keep Your Creative Spirit Flowing
- Keep It Simple
Don’t complicate things! A simple act of creativity is enough. If you feel overwhelmed, focus on small, achievable steps. Even if it’s just sketching a quick design, you’re still engaging your creativity. - Make Time for Play
Set aside regular moments in your week to play with creativity. Like children, we need to make space for fun, so create a dedicated “playtime” just for yourself. Whether it’s 10 minutes or an hour, it’s worth it! - Celebrate Small Wins
Every time you create something, no matter how small, celebrate it. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It’s a victory to have cherished your creative spirit! Remember, “The Lord rejoices in His works” (Psalm 104:31), so we can rejoice in the works He’s allowed us to create.
Motivation to Create Today
Imagine the freedom and joy that comes when you approach creation like a child, no fear, no judgment, just pure fun! When you reclaim that spirit of creativity, you’ll find that it brings not only personal satisfaction but also a deeper connection with your Creator.
God has uniquely gifted you with creativity, and there’s something powerful about using that gift to express yourself. Whether you’re creating something for your home, a piece of art, a song, or even a simple doodle, you are glorifying God with every act of creation.
So, what’s stopping you from creating today? Take a moment right now to set aside all the distractions, let go of the pressures of perfection, and create something just for the joy of it.
As you create, remember: Your creativity is a beautiful reflection of the Creator who made you.
I do hope this has sparked a little fire in your creative soul. I mean, why not? If you’re anything like me, it’s far too easy to get caught up in the grind and forget how much fun it is to simply create for the joy of it. We don’t need to be the next big artist or the next baking sensation (although if that’s your thing, more power to you). What matters is the process, the freedom, and the joy of expressing yourself, just like when we were kids. And honestly, if God can appreciate a child’s stick figure drawing, I reckon He’s more than happy to see our creative attempts too—messy, imperfect, and all!
Behind the scenes, as I’ve been writing this, I’ve had my own little creative journey (mainly of realising I need to just let go of the idea of perfection). Between school runs, feeding the family, and the occasional drama of “Where did I put my phone?” (because, honestly, I can never find it when I need it), it’s so easy to forget how good it feels to simply create. But today, I gave myself the grace to just enjoy the process. No stress. No “perfect outcomes” are needed—just a bit of fun. And I reckon that’s something we could all do with more of, don’t you think?
So, what’s stopping you from creating today? Whether it’s a cheeky drawing, writing a quick poem, or simply scribbling a prayer, just go for it. Don’t worry about the end result; it’s about enjoying the process and remembering that you’ve been given this beautiful gift of creativity. You’re glorifying God in every moment of it!
I’d love to hear what you’re creating, so do share it in the comments, and let’s inspire one another. There’s no right or wrong way to do it, so let’s get our creative juices flowing! And remember—whether it’s big or small, your creation matters. God sees it, and He delights in it.
Now, go on, grab those crayons, that notebook, or just a moment to play. Let’s make something wonderful today.
What will you create today? Let me know in the comments, and don’t forget to share your creations as you go!
Sending blessings to you!
Scherise. X
