Hello, darling,

Welcome back to the blog! It’s one of those quiet, rainy afternoons where the world outside feels as though it’s been gently wrapped in a soft, grey blanket. I’m curled up in the corner of the living room, a steaming cup of strong English breakfast tea in hand, while my daughter’s little giggles float through the air as she plays nearby. My husband, Sham, is working in the other room, his soft hum of focus in the background, while the warmth of family wraps around me. There’s an undeniable peace that comes with these moments—a sense of stability, even if just for a short while. But as peaceful as this moment is, there’s something I need to share with you—a feeling that’s been weighing on my heart for a while now.

It’s the heavy reality of sin. Yes, the uncomfortable topic we often shy away from or simply hope will resolve itself. But here’s the thing: it won’t.

I’ve been there. You know, the place where you’re burdened by guilt, feeling disconnected from God, and wondering what to do next after making a mistake. Trust me when I say, you are not alone in this. As a wife, a mother, and someone learning to walk in grace every single day, I’ve discovered that the journey back to God after sin isn’t always a straight path. It’s more like a winding road, filled with moments of grace, humility, and, if you’re lucky, a bit of chocolate cake to make it all a little less daunting (you’ll see why I mention that shortly).

In today’s post, I’m going to share what I’ve learned about the path to renewal after sin. It’s not just about saying sorry; it’s about understanding how God welcomes us back, time and time again, into His arms. This message is not just something I wanted to write for you, but something I needed to hear myself. So, pour yourself a cup of your favourite tea, settle in, and let’s talk about this.

1. Don’t Wallow in Sin

One of the first things we tend to do after sinning is wallow in our shame. We let ourselves get stuck in feelings of guilt and unworthiness as if God’s grace can’t possibly cover what we’ve done. But Romans 5:8-9 reminds us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The truth is, God’s love and mercy are bigger than any sin we commit. So, don’t stay stuck in the shame. Recognize that while sin is serious, Jesus’s sacrifice is greater. It’s okay to feel remorse but don’t let it trap you.

2. Understand It’s a Battle

Living out our faith is not a one-time decision; it’s an ongoing battle. Ephesians 6:13 calls us to “put on the full armour of God,” and that’s because life as a Christian is full of challenges. Temptations will come, and they will test us. It’s important to remember that sin doesn’t define us, it’s part of the battle we’re in. But victory is possible through Christ. So, when we fall, we don’t give up; we rise again, knowing that this is a fight worth fighting.

3. Confess Your Sin

Confession isn’t just a ritual, it’s a pathway to healing. First John 1:9 assures us, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Confession brings restoration and freedom. It’s a way to release the burden of guilt and start fresh. When I’ve confessed my sins, I’ve felt an overwhelming sense of peace and relief, knowing that God forgives me.

4. Identify Your Triggers

One of the keys to avoiding sin in the future is understanding what triggers us. James 1:14-15 talks about how we are lured and enticed by our own desires. These desires, when acted upon, lead to sin. So, take a moment to think about what led you to sin in the first place. Was it a particular situation, emotion, or environment? By identifying these triggers, we can take steps to avoid them in the future, whether it’s setting up boundaries or removing ourselves from tempting situations.

5. Serve the Lord

Finally, after sinning, don’t isolate yourself from God serve Him. When we serve, we shift our focus from ourselves to God and His mission. 1 Samuel 12:20 encourages us to “serve the Lord with all your heart.” Serving isn’t just about doing good works; it’s about aligning ourselves with God’s will. I’ve found that when I focus on serving, it not only brings me closer to God but also helps me overcome the shame that sin often brings.

God’s Grace is Greater Than Our Sin

There’s a common misconception that once we’ve sinned, we’re too far gone to return to God. But the truth is, God’s grace is sufficient. His love is unfailing, and He is always ready to forgive. The enemy will tell you that you’re unworthy, but God is saying, “Come, I’m here to restore you.” Remember, there’s no sin too big for God to forgive, and there’s no shame so deep that His love can’t heal.

We’re all on this journey together. We will make mistakes, we will sin, but we don’t have to stay there. These five steps, don’t wallow in sin, understand it’s a battle, confess your sins, identify your triggers, and serve the Lord—have helped me find my way back to God time and time again. I encourage you to hold onto God’s promises and remember that no matter what you’ve done, He is faithful to forgive and restore.

If you’re reading this and struggling with guilt or shame right now, know that you’re not alone. We all face battles with sin. But I hope this blog post encourages you to keep moving forward in faith, trusting that God’s grace is always sufficient.

If you’ve been struggling, know this: God loves you deeply, and He’s ready to help you overcome. Don’t stay in your sin; instead, let His love and forgiveness lift you up. You are not defined by your mistakes—you’re defined by the grace of God. Let’s fight the good fight together, standing firm in His love and truth.

I hope this blog post has been a source of comfort and encouragement for you, as it has been for me to share it with you. The process of renewal isn’t always easy, but it is one filled with love, grace, and a lot of patience, from God and ourselves.

As I sit here now, the rain has finally stopped, and the afternoon sun is beginning to peek through the clouds. My daughter, Keyana, has come over to curl up beside me, her little hand resting gently in mine as she drifts off to sleep. Sham walks by, smiling, reminding me of the warmth of family—the unconditional love that surrounds us, even when we make mistakes. I think about how much I, too, need the restoration that comes only from God. We all do, don’t we?

So, no matter what mistakes you may have made, no matter how lost you may feel, remember this: God’s love is always waiting for you. There’s nothing you’ve done that is too big for His forgiveness. It’s not about perfection, far from it it’s about showing up with an open heart and saying, “I’m ready to come home.”

May you walk in the peace that comes from knowing that, no matter where you are in your walk with God, He is always ready to meet you where you are.  Keep walking, keep trusting, and keep coming home to Him.

Sending blessings to you!

Scherise. X
