Hello Darling,
Welcome back to the blog!
Today, I’m writing to you from my home office. I’m sitting in my favourite armchair, with a cup of warm english tea nearby. The soft afternoon light is pouring through the window, casting a gentle glow across the room. As I sit here, I feel a calm peace, a sense of closeness to God—and it’s in these quiet moments that I often feel His nudge to share what’s been on my heart.
Lately, I’ve felt a growing sense that we need to talk about the hidden battles we all face, the struggles that are not just physical or emotional but deeply spiritual. Life throws so many challenges our way: moments of doubt, seasons of stress, and sometimes that subtle but persistent pull to let go of our faith. These moments test our faith.
I wanted to write about the Armour of God because I’ve found myself relying on it so often. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, even hopeless at times. But God doesn’t leave us to fight these battles alone. In Ephesians 6, the Apostle Paul describes a kind of special protection, an armour designed for spiritual battles. It’s not a physical suit of armour but a powerful, unseen protection, crafted by God to keep us safe, steady, and grounded.
So, today, I want to walk you through this spiritual armour. Each piece has a unique purpose and, when put together, it helps us stand strong in the Lord. I’ll also share some examples of times when we might find ourselves needing each piece in our day-to-day lives
1. The Belt of Truth
The Belt of Truth represents living authentically and knowing what’s true about yourself and your purpose. It serves as the foundation of your identity, helping you remain grounded even when the world around you sways with different opinions.
For example, imagine you are scrolling through social media and seeing influencers, friends, and celebrities all sharing various takes on success, love, or happiness. It’s easy to feel insecure or pressured to meet those standards. Activating the Belt of Truth means reminding yourself that your worth doesn’t rely on others’ opinions or “likes.” Remind yourself of what’s genuinely true about who you are and what you value, rather than getting swept up in what’s popular.
2. The Breastplate of Righteousness
The Breastplate of Righteousness helps protect your heart, reminding you to align your actions with your values and make choices you can feel good about. It encourages integrity, especially when it would be easier to go along with the crowd.
For example, imagine a colleague at work suggests tweaking a report to make the team’s performance look better than it actually is, or people start gossiping at a social event. The Breastplate of Righteousness helps you stand firm, even if it means going against the current. Saying, “No, I don’t feel comfortable with that” allows you to stay true to what you know is right, protecting your heart from compromise.
3. The Shoes of Peace
The Shoes of Peace help you walk through life’s chaos with calm assurance. They allow you to maintain a peaceful mindset even in overwhelming or unpredictable times.
Life gets hectic, work deadlines, family responsibilities, a surprise expense like car repairs. It can sometimes feel like the ground is shaking beneath you. Activating the Shoes of Peace means taking a moment to breathe, pray, or reflect on past times you’ve handled stress well. While the stress may not disappear, these shoes allow you to keep moving forward calmly, knowing you’re not alone in facing it.
4. The Shield of Faith
The Shield of Faith serves as a protection when we face fear, doubt, or life’s challenges. It reminds us to hold on to hope and believe that a way forward exists, even when it isn’t visible.
For example; dealing with a financial setback, health issue, or job loss. These situations can fill you with fear or make you wonder if things will get better. Activating the Shield of Faith means focusing on hope, whether that’s in God’s promises, loved ones’ support, or your inner resilience. This shield encourages you to keep going, trusting there’s more to come than what you can see right now.
5. The Helmet of Salvation
The Helmet of Salvation protects your mind from worry and self-doubt. It reminds you of your value, purpose, and God’s promises, shifting your focus from negativity to hope.
For example, say you’re having a hard week, feeling a lot of self-doubt, or comparing yourself to others, thinking you’re not enough. Activating the Helmet of Salvation means choosing to focus on your accomplishments and worth, perhaps through affirmations, gratitude, or prayer. It shields you from spiralling into negativity, protecting your mind with peace and confidence.
6. The Sword of the Spirit
The Sword of the Spirit represents the strength and guidance found in God’s Word. This piece gives you the wisdom to respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally in difficult situations.
For example, you’re in a situation where someone undermines your work or you’re dealing with jealousy. It’s tempting to react emotionally, but the Sword of the Spirit helps you respond with wisdom. Just as Jesus used Scripture to stay grounded, you can use affirmations, positive words, or verses that help you pause, centre yourself, and respond with patience and integrity.
All the pieces of the Armour work together to help you stand firm in your faith, resilience, and purpose, especially in times of uncertainty or struggle.
Life can be filled with seasons of challenges, job transitions, difficult relationships, or health concerns. Standing firm in faith means using each piece of this armour to help you stay grounded, strong, and at peace. Knowing you have these spiritual “tools” lets you face life’s ups and downs with confidence, rooted in godly support and purpose.
Life will always bring challenges, but with God’s armour, we’re prepared to face them with resilience, grace, and confidence in His strength.
I am sending blessings your way!
