Hello, my Darling,
Welcome back to the blog! I’m snuggled up in my cosy living room. Even though it’s a bit chilly today (because, let’s face it, it’s the UK!), the warmth of my space makes everything feel just right. I’ve got a steaming cup of hot chocolate, rich, and creamy, with a sprinkle of cinnamon. I feel good because I’ve just finished my morning skincare routine, and the house is still quiet. It’s just me, writing peacefully on a Saturday morning, soaking in this calm moment. The room is bathed in soft, golden light, and there’s a serene stillness that makes it feel like a little retreat from the busy world outside.
In this moment, I’m reminded of how much I’ve been given, my home, my family, my health. So often, I get caught up in the whirlwind of life, but today, I want to pause and reflect on the blessings I often take for granted. And more importantly, I want to share how I’ve learned that stewarding those blessings is about finding joy in the everyday tasks that sometimes seem mundane.
Overcoming Overwhelm
I know, firsthand, what it feels like to be overwhelmed. With family, work, and home responsibilities, it can feel like there’s always something to do and never enough time or energy to do it all. There have been many mornings when I’ve prayed, asking God to help me with the overwhelm, to take away the laziness or feelings of inadequacy. And while I’ve certainly grown in grace, I’ve also realised that a big part of stewarding our blessings is about taking intentional steps to manage our time, our energy, and our mindset.
Let me share an example: It’s easy to think of housework as a burden, especially when you’ve got piles of laundry or dishes to wash. But I’ve learned to see these as opportunities rather than chores. When I’m cleaning, I remind myself that I’m caring for my family and creating a space for them to thrive. Instead of feeling frustrated by the mountain of dishes, I choose to be grateful that we have food to eat, that my family is together, and that I’m able to care for them. This shift in mindset has turned simple tasks into meaningful acts of love and stewardship.
Expectations vs. Joy
Another big lesson I’ve learned is that our expectations often steal our joy. I used to have a picture-perfect idea of what motherhood and home life should look like, a tidy home, perfectly behaved children, and everything in its place. But reality rarely matches up with those expectations, and if we’re not careful, we end up feeling frustrated and disappointed.
I remember a day not long ago when my house was anything but perfect. Toys were scattered around, the laundry basket was overflowing, and I hadn’t yet had a chance to sit down. But instead of getting upset about the mess, I chose to think about the beauty in the imperfection. My daughter was playing and laughing, sham was preparing dinner, and I was right in the middle of it all. Instead of focusing on what wasn’t done, I focused on the joy of being present, in the moment, with my family.
Stewardship isn’t about perfection. It’s about faithfulness. God doesn’t ask us to do everything perfectly; He just asks us to do it with love and gratitude. And that, my friends, is where joy is found—in the midst of the ordinary, messy, imperfect moments.
A Heart of Gratitude in Every Task
One of the most beautiful lessons I’ve learned is the power of gratitude. When I express thanks for the little things, whether it’s the warmth of my home, the food on my table, or the time I get to spend with my family, I remind myself that all of these things are gifts from God. When we approach our daily tasks with a heart of gratitude, we’re not just going through the motions; we’re actively stewarding God’s blessings.
I’ve also found that when we thank God for what we have, no matter how small, it helps shift our focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant. I’m thankful for the simple act of preparing a meal for my family. I’m thankful for a warm cup of tea when I’m feeling a little under the weather. Even the simple act of folding laundry becomes a reminder of God’s provision.
Simplifying to Make Room for Blessings
Sometimes, stewarding our blessings means clearing out the clutter, both physically and emotionally. I remember when I went through a major decluttering phase in my home, giving away clothes and toys that we no longer needed. The more I gave away, the lighter I felt. By letting go of excess, I made room for new blessings, whether it was new opportunities, new relationships, or simply new ways of thinking.
It’s the same with our spiritual lives. When we declutter our hearts and minds, by letting go of worries, bitterness, or the need for control we make room for peace, joy, and God’s blessings to flow in. Stewardship is about making space for God to move in our lives, physically and spiritually.
Trusting God Through Struggles
Life isn’t always easy, and sometimes the blessings we’re entrusted with come with challenges. But even in the midst of struggles, God is there. He sees our pain and our efforts, and He’s faithful to guide us through it. Stewardship isn’t just about managing the good moments, it’s about trusting God when things are tough.
For example, I remember a difficult time when I was juggling work, motherhood, and family responsibilities all while navigating health challenges. It felt overwhelming. But in those moments, I had to rely on God’s strength. I had to trust that He was in the midst of the chaos, shaping me and refining me for the next season. And in those moments of trust, I found a deeper understanding of what it means to steward my blessings with grace.
Being a Blessing to Others
Finally, stewardship isn’t just about what we do for ourselves. It’s also about how we bless others. When we give away things we no longer need, whether it’s clothes, toys, or even time, we are acting in faith, trusting that God will continue to provide for us.
One of the most rewarding ways I’ve found to be a blessing is through acts of service. Whether it’s cooking a meal for a friend, offering a listening ear, or simply sharing a word of encouragement, these small acts of kindness are powerful ways to steward what we’ve been given. And the beauty is, we’re blessed in return, not just through tangible gifts, but through the joy that comes from giving.
I encourage you, as I have encouraged myself, to take time to steward the blessings in your life. Whether it’s your home, your family, your health, or your time, these are all gifts from God. And when we steward them well, with gratitude, faithfulness, and joy, we honour God and find purpose in every task.
So, let’s commit to living out our stewardship with hearts full of gratitude, hands ready to serve, and eyes open to the blessings all around us. God is in the small moments, the quiet moments, and the big ones too. And when we choose to steward well, we find the joy, peace, and purpose He has for us in the everyday.
Sending blessings your way,
