Hello darling!
Welcome back to the blog! I hope you’re doing well. I’m sitting here with my Bible and a cup of tea, and I couldn’t wait to share this with you. Have you ever felt like you’re juggling so many things, trying to keep it all together, but still feel like something’s missing? I’ve been there too, and that’s why today’s topic is so close to my heart.

We’re going to dig into one of the most powerful verses in the Bible: Matthew 6:33. This verse has completely changed the way I approach life, and I believe it can do the same for you. It’s all about putting God at the centre of everything and seeing how everything else falls into place.

Let’s start with Matthew 6:33, which says: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33, ESV).

Why Seeking God First Matters

For a long time, I found myself caught in a cycle of striving – constantly trying to achieve more, gather more, and be more. I was working so hard to make everything happen on my own, but no matter how much I accomplished, there was always a sense of something missing. Have you ever felt that way? You tick off all the boxes, work, family, friendships, personal goals but still feel like something’s not quite right?

I found that this restlessness stemmed from misplaced priorities. I was putting everything else first – from my career to my ambitions – without truly prioritising God. I was missing out on the peace that comes from seeking God first.

It wasn’t until I stumbled upon Matthew 6:33 that things began to shift. It was like a light bulb went off. Jesus wasn’t just offering us a piece of advice here; He was giving us a key to unlock God’s blessing and peace in our lives. Seek God first, and everything else will fall into place. That was the missing piece.

What Does It Mean to Seek God First?

You might be wondering: What does it mean to seek God first? Well, it’s more than just a checklist or a quick prayer. Seeking God first is about making Him your primary focus in all things. It means putting aside your plans and desires and aligning yourself with God’s will. It means making time for Him – whether it’s through prayer, worship music, or reading His Word – and letting His direction guide every area of your life.

Key Elements of Seeking God First:

  • Prioritising His Will Over Your Own: Allow God to lead your life, and trust that His plans are better than your own.
  • Aligning Your Heart with His Kingdom: create a heart that is passionate about God’s kingdom, His righteousness, and His glory.
  • Investing Time in God: Make regular time for prayer, worship, and studying the Word.
  • Trusting in His Timing: Recognise that God’s timing is always perfect, and His ways are higher than ours.

In a recent Bible study group I attended, one of my sisters in Christ shared a powerful testimony that really hit home. She explained how, for years, she had been chasing after success in her career, trying to prove herself in a highly competitive industry. She poured all of her time and energy into her job, but no matter how hard she worked, she felt unfulfilled. She wasn’t seeing the promotion or recognition she thought she deserved, and the stress was wearing her down. It wasn’t until she started truly seeking God first, praying every morning, reading her Bible before work, and asking for God’s wisdom that things started to shift. She began to feel an overwhelming sense of peace, knowing that God was guiding her every step of the way. Slowly, but surely, her work environment changed, her relationships with colleagues improved, and she found herself promoted in ways she hadn’t expected. This testimony was shared in a recent Bible study, and it’s a beautiful example of how seeking God first brings change.

Practical Tips for Seeking God First

I know that in today’s fast-paced world, it can feel difficult to truly prioritise God. We have so many responsibilities and distractions, and it’s easy to let them take over. But making the decision to seek God first doesn’t have to be complicated, and it doesn’t require you to have hours of free time. It’s about intentionally carving out moments in your day to focus on Him and His will.

Here are some practical tips for seeking God first in your daily life:

1. Start Your Day with God

The first moments of your day are precious, and how you start can set the tone for everything that follows. Instead of reaching for your phone or going straight into your to-do list, begin with a short prayer. Invite God into your day, asking Him to guide your decisions, provide peace, and give you strength for whatever comes your way.

Quick Tip: Set an alarm or reminder on your phone for 5 minutes of prayer or reflection as soon as you wake up.

2. Read His Word Daily

The Bible is not just a book, it’s God’s living Word, and it’s packed with wisdom and direction. Even if you only read a few verses a day, make it a habit to spend time in the Word. When you seek God through His Word, you align yourself with His will and begin to see your life through His lens.

Quick Tip: Download a Bible app to read a verse or two every morning or evening to help you stay connected.

3. Make Time for Worship

Worship isn’t just reserved for church; it’s a lifestyle. Set aside time each day to praise God for who He is and what He’s done in your life. Whether it’s singing, journaling, or just reflecting on God’s goodness, worship brings your focus back to God. I’ve found that listening to worship music throughout the day helps me stay connected to Him, especially when I’m feeling stressed or distracted.

Quick Tip: Create a playlist of your favourite worship songs, and listen to them while driving, cooking, or working.

4. Trust God’s Timing and Plan

It’s easy to get discouraged when things don’t happen according to our plans. But when we seek God first, we trust that His timing is perfect. God doesn’t need us to make things happen, we just need to trust that He will take care of the rest.

Quick Tip: If you’re feeling anxious about timing, pray and ask God to give you peace and trust in His perfect timing.

5. Live Out His Righteousness

Seeking God first is also about living in a way that reflects His love, grace, and righteousness. Take time to examine your heart and actions. Are they aligned with God’s commands? Are you treating others with kindness, humility, and respect? When you live out His righteousness, you bring His kingdom to earth and become a light to those around you.

Quick Tip: Reflect each day on how you treated others, and ask God to help you be more like Him in your interactions.

6. Take Breaks for Prayer and Reflection

We can get so caught up in the busyness of life that we forget to pause and check in with God. Make it a habit to step away from your tasks for short moments of prayer throughout the day. Even just five minutes of quiet reflection can help you realign your heart and mind with God’s will.

Quick Tip: Set a timer to take a five-minute break during your workday to pray and reflect.

God’s Faithfulness: More Testimonies

Another amazing testimony from our Bible study came from a sister who shared about her financial struggles. For years, she had been battling debt and working multiple jobs to make ends meet. She had tried everything, but it wasn’t until she began seeking God first—praying for wisdom on her finances and trusting that God would provide—that things began to change. Within a few months, she received a job offer that not only paid better but also gave her more time to spend with her family. She was able to pay off debts and find a new sense of freedom. She said, “When I started trusting God with my finances and seeking Him first, everything changed.” This testimony was such a powerful reminder of how God provides when we seek Him first.

Let God Lead

Seeking God first is not just a good idea, it’s the key to experiencing His peace, provision, and purpose. When we make God the centre of our lives, everything else falls into place. It’s a promise in Matthew 6:33 that we can hold onto with confidence: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”

Darling, I encourage you to take that step of faith today. It doesn’t matter where you are in your journey, God is ready to meet you where you are. Start by seeking Him first, and watch how He will move in your life.

Thank you for reading this blog. I would love to hear your thoughts and testimonies. How has seeking God first impacted your life? Feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me, let’s encourage each other in this journey of faith!
Alright, darling, I hope this post has encouraged you as much as it’s encouraged me. Matthew 6:33 isn’t just a verse to memorise, it’s a promise to live by. When we seek God first, we don’t have to stress about how everything else will work out because He’s already got it covered.

I’d love to hear from you! Have you had moments where you prioritised God and saw Him work in unexpected ways? Or maybe this is something you’re just starting to explore. Either way, let’s talk about it in the comments or feel free to send me a message.

Hello, my darling, Welcome back to the blog.
