Hello Darling,

Welcome back to the blog! 🤍

I’m currently curled up in my favourite spot by the window, sipping on a steaming cup of Earl Grey tea. (there is a new brand I have been loving) The house feels peaceful at this moment, as my daughter is happily playing nearby, her laughter echoing softly from the next room. It’s in moments like these that I’m reminded of God’s presence, even in the simple, everyday rhythms of life.

These quiet pockets of stillness often become my time to reflect, to pray, and to listen to what God is speaking into my heart. Lately, He’s been challenging me to think deeply about what it means to truly draw closer to Him, not just during church on Sunday, but in the midst of laundry, shopping lists, and the never-ending busyness of life.

As we grow in our faith, we often find ourselves wrestling with the idea of what it means to truly follow Jesus. It’s not always easy, but I’ve come to understand that it’s a process of making intentional choices every day. And while we all have a unique journey, there are some practical steps I believe can help us get closer to God and allow Him to transform us in deeper ways.

1. Make an Intentional Decision to Follow Jesus

The first step in drawing closer to God is making a conscious, deliberate decision to follow Him. It’s not just about saying “yes” once and leaving it at that, it’s about daily surrender. God never forces us into a relationship with Him. Instead, He waits for us to come to Him, to choose Him again and again, even when it’s difficult.

This kind of decision involves denying ourselves. As hard as it is to admit, sometimes our flesh wants things that are not aligned with God’s will. There’s a constant tension between living for ourselves and living for Him. But the more we choose to surrender our will to God, the more He will shape us to reflect His image.

2. Let Go of Self and Seek More of Him

When we talk about drawing closer to God, we must also talk about letting go of our own desires, control, and ego. The journey with Jesus requires us to relinquish the need for self-sufficiency. It’s not always easy to let go of the things we hold dear, our pride, our plans, and our preferences, but God calls us to surrender them to Him.

In Matthew 16:24, Jesus says, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” This is not just about big moments but about daily choices. Choosing to follow Jesus means putting aside the things that are not in line with His will and longing for more of Him in our lives. It’s a heart posture of humility, recognising that His plan is always better than our own.

3. Seek God in the Everyday Moments

One of the things I’ve been learning lately is the importance of seeking God not just in the big, moments but in the small, everyday ones. It’s easy to remember God when we’re in church or when we’re reading our Bible, but how often do we bring Him into our daily lives, into our work, our family time, our chores, and even our downtime?

Practical steps to seek God can include setting aside intentional time each day to pray, worship, and read His Word. For me, starting the day with a moment of gratitude and prayer helps to keep my heart centred on Him. But I also try to remember God throughout the day. Sometimes it’s as simple as a quick prayer while I’m driving or a worship song playing while I do the dishes. These moments are where God’s presence can fill the spaces of our daily lives, and it’s in these moments that we can grow closer to Him.

4. Long for More of Him

I’ve found that as I draw closer to God, my desire for Him only grows stronger. The more I get to know Him, the more I long for His presence. This longing is not just about wanting blessings or answers to prayers but desiring to know Him deeper. It’s about longing for the peace, the joy, and the love that only He can provide.

Psalm 42:1 says, “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.” This image of a deer thirsting for water reflects the intense longing we should have for God’s presence in our lives. When we truly experience the depth of His love and grace, it creates a deep hunger in us to experience even more of Him. And the beautiful thing is that God will meet us in that longing. He promises that if we seek Him with all our hearts, we will find Him.

5. Be Patient with the Process

Finally, it’s important to remember that drawing closer to God is a journey, not a destination. It’s easy to get discouraged when we don’t see an immediate change in our lives. However, the process of sanctification is slow, steady, and sometimes difficult. There will be seasons where we feel distant, or where it feels like we’re not making progress. But the beauty of following Jesus is that He never leaves us. Even when we can’t feel His presence, He is there, working in us, shaping us, and drawing us nearer to Himself.

If you’re in a season of longing for more of God, know that He sees you. He knows your heart, and He is faithful to meet you where you are. Keep seeking Him, even when it’s hard. Keep praying, keep reading, and keep trusting that He is at work in your life.

My Final Thoughts On Today’s Topic…

It’s not about perfection but about progress. We are all in the process, of learning to let go of our self-centeredness and make room for God to move in our hearts. And the more we seek Him, the more He will draw near to us.

My prayer for you today is that you will experience the deep, unshakeable love of God in a new way. That you would hunger and thirst for Him, and that your walk with Him would grow deeper each day. Let’s continue to choose Him, deny ourselves, and long for more of His presence in our lives.

Sending you so much love and blessings. ✨ May your faith grow stronger, and may you always know that you are never alone.

Until next time, my darling, stay blessed and keep seeking Him!
