Hey darling,

Welcome back to the blog! Let’s talk about something we don’t often admit out loud, those little habits that slowly take over our lives without us realising it. For me, it wasn’t drugs or alcohol, but that doesn’t mean I was off the hook. My addictions were sneakier, like social media scrolling until my thumb went numb, binge-watching shows instead of dealing with life, or stress-eating my weight in snacks while promising myself that Monday would be the day I’d finally “get it together.”

It wasn’t just about what I was doing; it was about what I wasn’t doing. These habits weren’t harmless they were taking up space that God should have been filling in my life. I was numbing myself with distractions and comforts that left me feeling emptier than before. Maybe you know the feeling: you’re so caught up in the cycle that you don’t even realize it’s controlling you.

The funny thing is, I didn’t even think I had a problem at first. I mean, it’s just scrolling on my phone what’s the big deal? But when I started to look deeper, I realised these “harmless” habits were stealing my joy, draining my energy, and pulling me further away from the life God had for me.

The journey to breaking free wasn’t easy or perfect, I still love snacks, and I’m still learning to set my phone down. But what I’ve discovered is that with God, real freedom is possible. Not just from the obvious struggles but from the quiet ones that sneak into our hearts and take over.

So, if you’re feeling stuck in a cycle, whether it’s unhealthy eating, screen time, or even saying “yes” to everything because you can’t say “no” I want you to know you’re not alone. And more importantly, there’s hope. In this blog post, I’m pulling back the curtain to share my story, what I’ve learned, and how God has been my source of strength every step of the way.

The Power of Realising Your Struggle

One of the first steps in breaking free from addiction is acknowledging the problem. It’s easy to brush things under the rug, especially when the addiction is something socially accepted, like overeating, social media scrolling, or even seemingly harmless habits like checking your phone. But the truth is, anything that takes God’s place in your heart can become an idol and a chain. For me, it wasn’t just one addiction, but several things that kept me from fully living in the freedom God had for me.

When I was at my lowest point, I was addicted to things that didn’t just harm my body but also hindered my spiritual growth. The enemy works through these addictions to keep us distracted from our purpose and our relationship with God. I realised that when we give in to these distractions, we are choosing to serve ourselves instead of God.

The Struggle Is Real

Breaking free from addiction is not a one-time decision; it’s a daily choice. For those of you who struggle with habits like vaping, overeating, or even social media addiction, you know how hard it can be to stay strong. There were days I felt like giving up, questioning if I would ever be truly free. But what I learned along the way is that God doesn’t just deliver us once and leave us to fend for ourselves. He’s with us every step of the way.

I had to come to terms with my own weakness and surrender my will to God. It’s humbling to admit that we can’t do it alone. We need His strength to break the chains, and sometimes, that requires deep healing, both physical and spiritual. I remember being overwhelmed by guilt when I fell, but God showed me that falling doesn’t mean I’ve failed. It means that I get back up, not in my own strength, but through His grace.

The Turning Point

What changed for me was knowing God in a way I had never experienced before. It wasn’t just about stopping my addictions; it was about changing my heart and realigning my desires with His will. As I prayed and asked God to help me, He began to break the strongholds in my life. One by one, the things that once held me captive started losing their grip. It wasn’t immediate, but each day I felt stronger, more grounded in my faith, and more aware of God’s presence within me.

The Bible tells us that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17). I began to understand that I didn’t have to fight this battle on my own. I could rest in God’s promises and trust that He was working all things for my good.

The Power of Prayer and Accountability

Prayer was a constant source of strength throughout my journey. Whenever I felt weak, I would cry out to God, asking Him to help me in my time of need. I also reached out to trusted friends and mentors who prayed with me and held me accountable. God never intended for us to walk this journey alone, and having a community of believers made all the difference.

If you’re struggling with any kind of addiction, I encourage you to seek help, both from God and from those around you who can support you in your walk. There is no shame in asking for help; in fact, it’s a sign of strength. The Lord has placed people in your life who can pray for you, encourage you, and help you stay focused on what truly matters.

It’s Not Easy, But It’s Worth It

Breaking free from addiction is hard work. It’s a battle that requires perseverance, faith, and trust in God. There will be moments when you feel like giving up, but I want to encourage you to keep pressing forward. God sees your efforts, He knows your heart, and He is with you every step of the way.

Through His grace, I’ve learned that it’s not about being perfect. It’s about surrendering to Him and letting Him do the work. No matter what addiction you’re facing, whether it’s substance abuse, food addiction, or anything else know that God is able to deliver you. You don’t have to stay stuck in the cycle of shame and defeat. You can walk in freedom today, and I’m living proof of that.

Keep the Faith and Press On

I believe in you, and more importantly, God believes in you. He has already made a way for you to be free. The path won’t always be smooth, but I promise you that the joy and peace that come with breaking free from addiction are worth every step of the journey.

So, if you’re ready to break free, take that first step. Start by praying for God’s strength, confessing your struggles, and trusting that He will see you through. It’s not easy, but it is so worth it. You are not alone—God is with you, and He will give you the victory.

Let that truth sink in. With God, all things are possible, including breaking free from the chains that hold you down. Keep fighting the good fight, and know that your freedom is already secured in Christ.

You’ve got this. And God’s got you.

Thanks for sticking with me through this blog post. If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this, it’s that no struggle is too small or too silly for God to care about. Whether it’s a screen addiction, emotional eating, or any other habit you’re battling, God wants to step into your life and bring you freedom.

Writing this post was like a little therapy session for me, honestly. It reminded me of how far God has brought me and how much work He’s still doing in me. Some days, I nail it: I close the apps, put down the snacks, and feel like I’m finally getting somewhere. Other days, not so much. But that’s the beauty of walking with God: it’s not about perfection; it’s about progress and surrendering each day to Him.

If you’re reading this and feeling like your struggle isn’t “big enough” to count, let me assure you, it matters. Whether it’s social media, food, overworking, or just plain distractions, anything that takes God’s place in your heart is worth addressing. And the best news? You don’t have to figure it out alone.

I’ll leave you with a verse that has been a source of encouragement for me:

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” – Philippians 4:13

Until next time, keep seeking Him, and keep trusting the process.

Sending blessings to you!
Scherise. X
