Hey, darling!

Welcome back to the blog! Right now, I’m curled up in my comfy sofa, sipping on a cup of Earl Grey tea with a splash of oat milk (my absolute favourite). The house feels quiet, and it’s one of those evenings where I’ve just been sitting and reflecting on life. Lately, I’ve been in this sentimental headspace, soaking up family time and realising something so simple but powerful, that the love we’re looking for is often right in front of us if we take the time to notice it.

It’s been in my heart to share this with you because I know how easy it is to get caught up in the rush, waiting for the next big thing. But sometimes, the magic is already here, in the small, everyday moments.

The enemy doesn’t always come with loud, obvious distractions. Sometimes, it’s gentle with endless scrolling, fantasizing about a “better” version of life, or mentally escaping through daydreams.

At first glance, these habits might seem harmless. But here’s the danger: while our minds wander, our spirits drift further from God. Instead of engaging in the present or seeking Him in our struggles, we retreat into a world of “what-ifs” and fantasies that we can never truly satisfy.

I’ve been guilty of this too. Some days, I’d sit and imagine a perfect scenario, a life without struggles, a bigger house, or a more successful career. And while there’s nothing wrong with having dreams or goals, there is a line where dreaming becomes escapism.

Why We Fantasize

The root of this habit often lies in dissatisfaction or pain. For many, daydreaming becomes a coping mechanism:

  • Stress Relief: It’s easier to imagine a perfect life than to deal with the challenges we face daily.
  • Fear: Fantasizing about control over a situation can feel safer than trusting God with the unknown.
  • Past Trauma: Daydreaming can stem from unresolved wounds.

But here’s what God reminded me: escapism only leads to deeper frustration. The enemy wants us stuck in this cycle because as long as we’re distracted, we can’t step into our God-given assignments.

Recognising the Wake-Up Call

Have you ever felt a tug in your spirit a moment where God whispers, “Wake up, my child”? For me, it came during prayer. I realised I was living more in my head than in His presence. I wasn’t giving God room to work because I was too busy fantasizing about a life I wanted instead of trusting Him with the life I had.

That moment changed everything. I stopped and prayed: “Lord, help me to be present. Open my eyes to Your blessings and align my heart with Your will.”

Practical Steps to Break Free

If you feel like you’ve been spiritually asleep, here are some steps that helped me:

  1. Pause and Pray
When you catch yourself daydreaming or fantasizing, stop and ask yourself, “Why am I doing this?” Then, take those emotions to God. Whether it’s fear, sadness, or frustration, He wants to hear it all.
  2. Replace Escapism with Worship
Instead of zoning out on social media or in your head, turn on worship music, open your Bible, or journal your thoughts to God. Redirect your mind toward Him.
  3. Be Present
Gratitude is a powerful weapon against dissatisfaction. Start each day by thanking God for the blessings you have. Even in tough seasons, there’s always something to be grateful for.
  4. Build Accountability
Share your struggle with a trusted friend or mentor. Sometimes, we need others to remind us to stay spiritually awake and focused.
  5. Pray for Awareness
Ask the Holy Spirit to make you more conscious of distractions. He’s faithful to convict us gently and guide us back to the right path.

Encouragement from Scripture

The Bible reminds us to stay alert and focused on God:

  • “Be sober-minded; be watchful. The devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
  • “And do this, understanding the present time: The hour had already come for you to wake up from your slumber because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.” (Romans 13:11)

God is calling us to live fully awake, aware of His presence, ready for His assignments, and anchored in His truth.

It’s Time to Wake Up

If this resonates with you, let today be your wake-up call. God has so much more for you than a life spent in distraction or discontent. He wants to free you from the chains of fantasizing and daydreaming and lead you into a life of purpose, peace, and joy.

I’m walking this journey with you. Let’s lean into His grace and wake up together.

What’s Your Next Step?
Take a moment to pray and ask God to reveal areas of spiritual slumber in your life. Then, share in the comments, what is He showing you. Let’s encourage one another to step out of distraction and into the fullness of His love.

Sending blessings to you!
Scherise. X

Hello darling, Welcome back to the blog! It’s 7:30 AM, and my house is already buzzing with activity. My coffee maker is on, and my daughter is asking for cereal (again), while I’m trying to locate my other slipper, only to realise it’s under the sofa—next to a huge amount of building blocks, and a […]

Hey darling, welcome back to the blog! This morning, I found myself sneaking a quiet moment at the dining table, the hum of the kettle filling the air as my daughter giggled in the other room with her dad. I had just five minutes before the day would fully sweep me away, five minutes to […]
