Hello, darling welcome back to the blog! Today started like any other in our little home. My daughter was up early, enthusiastically (and noisily) deciding that breakfast should involve yoghurt and whatever crumbs were left in the biscuit tin. Meanwhile, I was perched by the window with a cup of tea—barely warm because, let’s be honest, toddlers don’t exactly give you time to drink tea properly. Outside, the neighbours were out walking their dogs, and the air had that crispness that reminded you that autumn was here. But in the middle of all the chaos, I found myself drawn to Luke 5:1-9.
It’s a passage I’ve read before, but today it hit me differently. Simon Peter’s story of stepping out in faith after a night of failure felt so relatable. How many times do we feel like we’ve given all we have, only for life to come up empty-handed? Yet, when Jesus told Simon to try again, to lower the nets one more time—he obeyed. The result? A blessing so overwhelming that the nets could barely hold it.
As I thought about this, my daughter came over, tugged at my sleeve, and asked to read “Jesus” (her term for the Bible). That little moment felt like God’s nudge, reminding me that stepping into His glory isn’t just for the big moments; it’s about the little acts of trust, like saying “yes” to Him when life feels uncertain.
This blog post is for anyone who’s feeling stuck, tired, or unsure. Let’s talk about what it looks like to step out in faith and find confidence in Christ. Make yourself a proper cup of tea—or whatever keeps you going and keep reading.💗
The Invitation to Step Into the Deep
In Luke 5, we see Jesus standing by the lake of Gennesaret, teaching the crowds. Simon (Peter) and the other fishermen had been working all night without catching anything. They were tired, discouraged, and ready to call it quits. But then, Jesus shows up and gives them a command that seems out of place—He tells them to go out into the deep and cast their nets one more time.
Now, I want you to pause and think about this moment. The disciples were experienced fishermen. They had worked hard all night, yet they caught nothing. It would have been easy for them to think, “We’ve tried everything, we know this water, we’re tired. This isn’t going to work.” But instead, they responded with faith. They said, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets” (Luke 5:5).
And do you know what happened next? A miracle. Their nets were so full that they began to break. The catch was so large, that they had to call over their partners to help pull it in. Can you imagine the joy, and the astonishment they must have felt? That’s the kind of miracle that happens when we step out in faith, even when everything in our circumstances tells us to stay put.
God’s Glory is On the Other Side of Fear
This story speaks so strongly to me because I’ve found myself in those moments when fear, doubt, and discouragement try to keep me from stepping into what God has called me to. It’s easy to stay in the shallow waters, where things feel comfortable and predictable. But God is calling us to the deep, to the places where we can’t rely on our own strength and understanding but must trust Him completely.
It’s in the deep, unfamiliar waters where God’s glory shines the brightest. When we’re willing to step out and trust Him, that’s when He can do the miraculous. There’s something so beautiful about the moment we choose to obey, even when we don’t see the full picture. The disciples didn’t know what would happen, but they chose to obey. And in that obedience, they encountered God’s glory in a way they had never imagined.
God’s Confidence
The confidence we need doesn’t come from within ourselves, it comes from God. When we step into the unknown, we are not walking alone. We walk with the Creator of the universe, who has a plan and a purpose for our lives. His Word promises that He is with us always, even to the end of the age (Matthew 28:20).
I think about how often I’ve been tempted to shrink back because I didn’t feel “ready” or “worthy” to step into what God was calling me to. But here’s the thing: It’s not about being ready for our strength. It’s about trusting in His timing, His power, and His grace.
As I reflect on this passage, I’m reminded of how many times I’ve been afraid to take the next step in my walk with God. Maybe it’s starting something new, stepping into a new church, or taking a leap of faith in a relationship or career. Each time, I’ve had to choose to cast my nets into the deeper waters and trust that God will provide. And every time, He has shown up in ways that are far beyond what I could have imagined.
So, my question for you today is: What is God asking you to step into? Is there something in your life where you’re holding back, afraid of what might happen if you fully trust Him? I want to encourage you to take that step. Cast your nets into the deep, knowing that God’s glory is waiting on the other side of your fear.
Confidence in Christ
As we step into the new things God has for us, we can walk with confidence, not because of who we are, but because of who He is. His call on our lives is firm, and He will never leave us or forsake us.
I pray that you’ll experience God’s glory in powerful ways as you step into what He’s calling you to.
Now that the house has quieted down (my little one is finally napping, praise the Lord!), I’ve had a chance to sit with today’s reflections. Simon Peter’s story reminds us that stepping into God’s glory isn’t about being fearless or perfect—it’s about being willing to say, “Because You say so, I will,” even when life feels like it’s spinning in circles.
Life as a parent has taught me more about faith than I ever imagined. From trusting God through sleepless nights to leaning on Him when patience runs thin, I’ve learned that His strength shows up most powerfully in my weakness. Whether you’re facing a big leap of faith or just trying to get through another day, know this: God’s glory meets you in the ordinary, and His power fills in where you fall short.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for being part of this little corner of the internet. My prayer for you is that you’ll find the courage to step into God’s plans with confidence, knowing He’s with you every step of the way.
Until next time, trust His timing, and keep those nets ready—because when God moves, the blessings are more than you can imagine.
Sending blessings to you!
