In our fast-paced, hyper-connected world, social media can often feel like a double-edged sword. For the past two years, I’ve been acutely aware of its negative effects, prompting a significant change in my life. In April 2024, I decided to cut myself off from all social media completely. The transition from sharing everything to posting nothing was jarring at first, but as time passed, I felt a powerful shift within myself. I began to rediscover who I truly am, unfiltered by the curated images and opinions that social media so often promotes.

Social media has a way of clouding my judgment and shifting my focus away from what truly matters. It can make me feel disconnected from reality, even as I scroll through the lives of others. The freedom I found by stepping away has been profound, and I encourage anyone who feels similarly overwhelmed to consider taking a break. The internet is a virtual world, but true fulfilment lies in our real-world connections and experiences.

Reflecting on my journey, I realise that quitting social media opened my eyes to the depth and beauty of faith-based content available elsewhere, like YouTube. This has helped me deepen my relationship with God and steer clear of the temptations that social media often presents. After a personal tragedy, I found that stepping back from social media alleviated anxiety and opened up time for hobbies and creativity, reigniting my passions.

Over four years ago, I deleted certain social accounts, which has brought me closer to God and allowed me to root myself in the Word. I’ve learned that quitting certain social media platforms can lead to greater joy and a stronger focus on my family. Less time online translates to more time spent living fully, nurturing relationships, and engaging with the world around me.

In an age where it’s easy to lose ourselves in mindless scrolling, reclaiming my time and mental well-being is refreshing. Social media can steal precious moments that could be spent with loved ones or nurturing my spiritual life. By taking a break, I’ve been able to hear God more clearly, revitalising my spiritual walk and even strengthening my relationships.

While I still find value in platforms like YouTube and Pinterest for inspiration, I’ve also experienced newfound freedom and creativity by cutting ties completely, from other platforms. Without the constant notifications, I can now focus on my home, my child, and my personal growth.

Time is precious. If you feel overwhelmed or disconnected, consider stepping back from social media. There is a beautiful world waiting for you outside the screen where you can grow, connect, and rediscover yourself.

Here’s to healthy scrolling and living in the moment. 🌿❤️

Hello, my darling, Welcome back to the blog! Today, I’m all cosied up in my conservatory, my favourite spot in the house. I’m sipping a steaming cup of hot chocolate, rich and creamy with a sprinkle of cinnamon, and it’s the perfect way to start a peaceful Saturday morning. As I sit here, reflecting on […]

Hello, my darling, Welcome back to the blog! I’m sitting in my cosy living room. Even though it’s a bit chilly today (because, let’s face it, it’s the UK!), the warmth of my space still makes everything feel just right. I’ve got a steaming cup of hot chocolate in my hand, rich and creamy with […]
