Hello Darling,
Welcome back to the blog! Today, I want to open up about something that’s been on my heart for a while my transition from a “lukewarm” faith to one that’s truly on fire for God. I’m talking about those times when your faith starts feeling more like a checklist than a relationship. When prayers become routine and you can’t remember the last time you felt that deep, burning connection with God. If you’ve ever found yourself in that place, you’re not alone. I’ve been there too, and honestly, it’s a tough place to be. But through God’s grace, I’ve learned how to draw closer to Him.
In this blog post, I’m going to share seven practical steps that helped me rediscover my passion for the Lord, and I pray they help you in your own journey. I truly believe these steps can make a difference in your relationship with Him.
1. Create a Secret Place with God
One of the first steps to drawing closer to God is creating a “secret place” a place for just you and God. This can be anywhere: a cosy corner in your room, a seat by the window, or even a favourite park bench. The space is where you can come as you are to worship, pray, and simply be with God. In this space, you can share your heart, fears, and hopes with Him. It’s not about perfection; it’s about showing up consistently and making God a priority.
2. Learn to Pray
Prayer is more than a routine; it’s a conversation with our Father. I used to struggle with prayer because I thought I needed to say all the “right” things. But I’ve learned that God wants our hearts, not just fancy words. Start with simple, honest prayers. Pour out your feelings to Him, even the difficult ones. When I began talking to God as I would a close friend, I found it so much easier to connect with Him genuinely. Over time, prayer will become the lifeline of your faith, helping you feel closer to God each day.
3. Bible Study
God speaks to us through His Word, and studying it helps us know Him better. Start with small, achievable goals if Bible study feels intimidating. Pick a book (Psalms or Proverbs is great to start) and spend a few minutes each day reflecting on the verses. For beginners, a study Bible can be incredibly helpful in providing context and deeper understanding. With each passage, ask, “What is God saying to me here?” His Word will encourage, correct, and guide you, especially when you feel distant from Him.
4. Prioritise Time Alone with God
We live in a world full of noise and distractions, and sometimes our faith gets crowded out. I encourage you to prioritise daily alone time with God, even if it’s just 10-15 minutes in the morning. I found that waking up early or setting aside time before bed helps me stay grounded. This dedicated time with God is essential to maintain a strong relationship with Him. As we carve out this sacred time, we’ll notice Him working in our lives in ways we never imagined.
5. Confess Your Sins Regularly
Confession is not about guilt but freedom. When I started confessing my sins to God regularly, I felt so much lighter. God already knows our struggles, but confession allows us to release the burden and experience His forgiveness. Whether it’s small frustrations or deeper issues, bring them to God. Confession is a powerful reminder that He loves us unconditionally, and His grace covers our imperfections.
6. Fasting
Fasting is one of the most powerful yet often overlooked ways to grow closer to God. Fasting is more than abstaining from food, it’s a way to clear out distractions and focus solely on God. Through fasting, I found clarity and deepened my understanding of God’s purpose for my life. Start small, maybe skipping a meal or giving up social media for a day, and use that time to pray and reflect. Fasting has a unique way of drawing us closer to God by refocusing our hearts and minds on Him alone.
7. Worship with All Your Heart
Worship isn’t just a Sunday activity, it’s a lifestyle of honouring God in everything we do. I love setting aside time during the week for worship through music, dance. When we worship wholeheartedly, it shifts our focus from ourselves to God. This shift renews our spirit, reminding us of His power, love, and faithfulness. Worship has the power to break chains, bring healing, and passion for our God.
My Final Thought
Darling, going from lukewarm to on complete devontion isn’t easy, but it’s worth every step. God desires a deep, personal relationship with each of us, and when we pursue Him with all our hearts, He meets us right where we are. These practices have changed my life, helping me grow closer to God, and I believe they can do the same for you. Remember, God is always there, waiting to draw closer to you.
Sending blessings your way!
Scherise. X
