Hello darling,
Welcome back to the blog! As I sit here thinking about how I have grown spiritually, I’m reminded of the small, everyday moments that often hold the deepest lessons. After spending the day deep cleaning my home, cooking a nourishing meal, and creating content for my latest project, I found myself lighting a candle with the soothing fragrance of lavender and vanilla essence, the gentle light filling the room as I tidied up. It was in these ordinary tasks, wiping down surfaces, prepping a meal, and managing the day-to-day with my daughter that I felt God’s presence.
This kind of daily rhythm is where I’ve noticed some of the clearest signs of spiritual maturity. It’s in the moments where I’m not rushing or striving but simply being, in my home, working, serving my family, and nurturing my faith. These seemingly mundane tasks are opportunities to experience growth and connection with God.
If you’ve ever found yourself juggling the demands of work, motherhood, content creation, and everything in between, you might resonate with how God speaks to us in the quiet moments, where growth isn’t just in grand gestures but in the heart posture, we adopt every single day.
1. Experiencing the Fruit of the Spirit in Your Life
One of the clearest signs of spiritual maturity is the evidence of the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). These traits begin to manifest naturally as you abide in Christ.
For example, I’ve noticed God working on my patience and self-control. It’s not always easy, I’ve had moments where my old self would’ve lashed out, but now, by His grace, I can respond with gentleness. Like many of you, I’m still working on areas like gentleness and self-control, but seeing these fruits grow in my life is a testament to God’s power.
2. No Longer Surprised by Suffering
As we mature in our faith, we start to view trials differently. Instead of seeing suffering as punishment or random misfortune, we recognise it as a tool God uses to refine and grow us (James 1:2-4).
Recently, I faced a challenging season filled with setbacks and heartache. In the past, I might have asked, Why me? But now, I see these moments as opportunities for growth. I’m learning that suffering isn’t about what I’ve done wrong but about what God wants to develop in me. As one sister in Christ shared, “I don’t necessarily look forward to suffering, but I am grateful for the lessons it teaches and the reliance on God it creates.”
3. Hating Sin
Spiritual maturity means we no longer take sin lightly. Instead, we develop a hatred for sin because it separates us from God (Psalm 97:10). This doesn’t mean we won’t stumble, but we become quicker to repent and turn back to Him.
This area has been a personal struggle for me. I’ve noticed how easy it can be to rationalize sin, thinking, God knows my heart. But as I grow, I’ve realised that true repentance comes with a heart posture that aligns with His will. It’s about not just avoiding sin but actively seeking holiness.
4. A Humble and Childlike Heart
Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). A childlike heart is marked by humility, dependence, and trust in God.
For me, this has been a humbling process. I’ve always leaned heavily on self-sufficiency, but God has been teaching me to rely on Him instead. Like a child depends on their parent, I’m learning to bring my needs, fears, and joys to God without hesitation.
5. Prioritising God’s Presence Through Prayer and Quiet Time
Finally, spiritual maturity is reflected in a disciplined prayer life and a desire to be in God’s presence. Whether it’s through random prayers throughout the day or setting aside intentional quiet time, connecting with God becomes a priority.
One of the most beautiful testimonies I’ve heard is from someone who wakes up at random hours of the night to spend time with the Lord. While I may not be there yet, I’m working on carving out undistracted moments for Him daily. This isn’t about checking a box but creating a deeper relationship with God.
Growth
Spiritual maturity is a journey, not a sprint. We’ll never “arrive” this side of heaven, but we can rejoice in the work God is doing in us. Philippians 1:6 reminds us that “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”
So, whether you’re noticing the fruit of the Spirit, learning to hate sin, developing a humble heart, or prioritising prayer, remember that every step forward is a sign of His faithfulness. What areas is God growing you in today? Let’s celebrate His work together and keep pressing on.
After a day of cooking, cleaning, and taking care of my family, I can’t help but marvel at how God works through the simplest moments of life. It’s not always about the big milestones; it’s in lighting that candle, breathing in the calming lavender and vanilla, and acknowledging that even in the most routine tasks, God is shaping me. The process of working, serving, creating, and resting in His presence is how spiritual growth happens, step by step, day by day.
As you go about your daily tasks, whether you’re deep cleaning your home, planning meals, working on a project or content creation, remember that every moment is an opportunity to experience God’s presence and grace. His faithfulness is with us in the most ordinary moments, and each step forward is a testimony of His goodness.
Let’s continue to grow together, finding joy and purpose in the little things, and trusting that God is at work in us, even in the midst of our daily routines.
Sending blessings your way!
